About Me:
I am a researcher at Newcastle University and I study molecular biology in cancer 👩🔬. I live with my husband and our cat Lizzie 🐱, I am originally from Italy and I like making pizza and pasta at home 🍕🍝!

When I am not in the lab I like going for walks, watching movies (I love superhero movies!) and stand-up comedy! Also I *love* cats. Our little Lizzie is 3 years and a half, she is lovely and very affectionate but silently judges me when we take selfies!

Each of our cells contains DNA which gives information for our life. In cancer, this information changes and cells start growing like crazy.
I try and understand how the information contained in the DNA is read and passed on to other important machineries in breast and prostate cancer cells, and what goes wrong compared to healthy cells. The ultimate goal is to have a better idea of how we can prevent the cancer from spreading, or if we can treat it with new drugs to kill it.
Sometimes I work in the lab and do experiments, sometimes I analyse data at home using informatics. Here’s a picture of me in the cell culture room, where we grow cells and treat them with drugs before analysing them.

My Typical Day:
I wake up and have coffee and oatmeal, then I play with Lizzie 🐱 and get ready to work. Sometimes I work from home, sometimes I go to the lab. If I finish at 4-5PM I go to the gym, but sometimes I don’t finish until dinner time!

Most days after I wake up I wash my face and I do yoga with my husband, on videocall with his mum (she’s a teacher in India!). Then we have breakfast together, we watch the news and play with Lizzie. Soon it’s time to get ready for work! If I work from home, I sit at my desk and analyse data all day (lunchtime is a good break, because Lizzie and I watch TV). Going to the lab is a quick 15 minutes walk, and it’s nice to see all the other lab members. I often listen to music while doing experiments, it’s a fun way to channel my concentration (and if alone in the lab, I may even end up dancing!). When I finish all that I wanted to do for that day, I go to the gym for ~1h, then I get home and cook dinner! I love cooking, and so does my husband (he makes a great curry!). Once a week I take a break during the working day and go have a coffee with a friend, it helps me make some days different from the others and recharge my batteries.
