History! I think it is really important to have an understanding of the past as a lot of it carries forward into the present and dictates why the world is the way it is today.

I think mine was geography. Such a diverse subject and probably still classed really as one of the sciences!

I used to love art and music at school – I’ve been playing the guitar for 20 years now!

PE! I never had the opportunity to join any clubs outside school (apart from stoolball – a very old cricket like game played in Sussex villages), but I played a lot of sport at school and it was my favourite subject.

I really loved Maths. I really like numbers and rules and found with maths there was only 1 answer to a question.

Art! I still use a lot of colours and drawings when talking about my research in science 🎨

I loved English literature. To this day, I still read books for fun on my free time. Reading, no matter the genre, can help us better understand one another. It can also make you feel as though you’ve escaped to another place for a bit!

Art was my favourite subject in school, it allowed me to explore all the free floating ideas in my head..sort of what I am doing in my PhD just now too, except a lot less science-y.

Music was my other favourite subject at school. I got to have one keyboard lesson a week when I was doing my GCSEs, which meant I sometimes got out of half a double session of something I was less keen on (like English literature) 🙂

I like maths, as I found it easy to understand compared to English or other subjects, and drama because I really like having a go at acting and found it really fun.

English. I love reading and still read as much as I can for leisure. I also love writing and editing, which is handy because there is actually quite a bit of writing required in science.

History! But that may be because we did Medicine Through Time for GCSE and it was so interesting hearing about things like them doing operations with no anaesthetic in the past..
