It is hard being a scientist. You have to really think about what you are doing, if you make mistakes or are sloppy in your work, then experiments just won’t work. One big thing about science is being able to reproduce your findings, and if you are not careful then this doesn’t happen and nobody can ever believe your results.
It is hard but it is also very rewarding 🙂

Yes! Your brain is constantly at work trying to solve problems and you often end up taking your work home with you because of this. However, when you finally figure out the solution it’s the best feeling in the world!

It can be – scientists work to answer questions we don’t know the answer to, and sometimes you can get stuck! This can be very hard to deal with, and you sometimes need to let stuff go. There is also the possibility that you need to work weekends or late to do certain things – but good organisation can help with this.

Science can also be very rewarding though when it goes well, and this outweighs the hard things!

Sometimes yes. I think when your passionate about your research area and love what you do it doesn’t always feel like work. But there are times it is hard, there can be lots of rejection- when writing applications for money or trying to publish your work, and things go wrong alot more than right. We have to work hard to make sure experiments will work for a main project. That said it’s incredibly rewarding, if you like challenges, learning new things, planning your own time, doing something different every day. You also get to do alot of travel to conferences around the world to share your work.

Like all jobs, being a scientist can be hard sometimes. What is hard about being a scientist is that you often have to answer questions, and the answers are not in the books, you have to find them yourself. This is also the interesting part of the job! 🙂

It can be hard. It depends where your strength lies. I love lab work and find it a lot easier than long essay writing. But I am slowly getting better with more experience. Lab work can also be very physical and long at times which is hard. I love the variety of the job and the freedom it gives you.
Being self motivated is key I think

I would not say is hard but can be challenging when things don’t go your way or you have to repeat an investigation that takes a lot of time.

Every job is hard! The difficulty being a scientist sometimes is that you often keep thinking of your work when you get home. But when you find answers to your questions, the satisfaction compensates for all the long hours and frustration.

Yes, being a scientist can be very frustrating especially when things go wrong or won’t work which happens quite often! You can also experience a lot of rejection in science especially if you work in academia as you are often rejected when you apply for more money to do research and if you are trying to publish papers.

However I think every job can be hard at times! What is great about science is that the reward of when things go right makes up for the frustrating times as you know you have helped a lot of people through what you do 🙂 I would say it is important to have a passion for your work though as you will need it to get through the tough times!

It’s not a hard job like a builder for example were you are super tired at the end of the day but it can be hard because you are always thinking. If you are doing experiments you need to make sure you do then probably or you might miss out on that new way of helping people

It can sometimes be hard to be a scientist. The demands of the job can be stressful especially as you do not want to make a mistake, however, we have systems in place to ensure all results are checked before they are sent out.

My role is 9-5 and additionally, we are required to go in after-hours for emergency work. This can be on weekends, during bank holidays and during the week in the middle of the night.

Sometimes there are time pressures that can be demanding.

The thing to remember is you are not alone and you work as a team within a team. If anything is hard we tackle this together as a team.

It can be hard, especially in an area like mine where everything you do can impact a patient so you can’t afford to make any mistakes. It can also be frustrating when things don’t work (computers are complicated) but the benefits outweigh the negatives!
