Yes I do! It is really varied and interesting so I always feel like I am learning something new. There are definitely points where I don’t enjoy it as much but I think that comes with any job you do and the good definitely outweighs the bad for me!

I love that what I do each day will go towards improving our understanding of cancer and help to develop better treatments for people who are diagnosed.

Most of the time. I love the people I work with and how we brainstorm and work together to solve interesting problems. It can be frustrating when your experiment/code isn’t working or there’s other things that are slowing down your research. But that’s what makes it feel so good when you finally figure out how to make things work or learn a new skill!

Love it! The combination of teaching and research is truly fulfilling and rewarding. The daily interaction with my students and researchers is mind-provoking and quite fun. My aim is to show you some elements of this fun to inspire you become scientists yourselves!

Depends on how you measure enjoyment- I love my job on good days and hate it on bad days!

If enjoying a job is defined by never having a bad day and never doubting your career choice, I honestly don’t know if any field can offer that.

In every job you’re going to have ups and downs- I like to think enjoyment is simply a case of the good outweighing the bad, and my science career definitely offers that for me!

I do love my job, and couldn’t imagine doing anything else. I love the variation that everyday brings, working in the lab, analysing new data, meeting new students and teaching keen and interested students gives a huge sense of satisfaction. I like that as a scientist in a university, the data is mine, and the time is mine to manage and I can direct my research in whatever way takes my intertest.

Absolutely! It is so much fun. You get to ask unique questions that you are interested about and to explore the unknown! I also have to chance to work with other scientist from all over the world and to discover that way new cultures. I also teach topics I am passionate about and have the chance to interact with fantastic students!

Like most things there are good days and bad days. I enjoy days the most when stuff works out and I finally solve a problem I’ve been working on, but there can be bad days where I’m stressed and can’t fix my problem. However, looking back I’ve always decided it was more good than bad. To do science, you have to enjoy it enough to get through the bad days.

I do enjoy my job! While sometimes I would like to do some more hands-on things as I mainly work at a computer (and computers always have their own issues), it is nice to spend my day solving problems. Everything I do will hopefully end up helping a patient so it is nice to do work with meaning.

Not every job along your career path will be “the best job ever”. But that is part of your career development.
I would say that I miss the investigative part – being the one to come up with the research question, use my creativity to plan the experiments, executing at the bench or in the field. However, I am learning new skills and working with state-of-the-art experimental equipment. It is great to know I am working at the cutting-edge of technology and scientific research, and hope to use this know-how for my next scientific endeavour. Stay tuned ☺️

I love my job! Everyday is like a new challenge! It makes you feel like the Sherlock Holmes of diseases! You combine the clues (your data) and you get to understand the disease better. This is amazing cause the things you learn about the disease can help more people be healthy! 😀

I do! I like it so much that sometimes it’s hard to press ‘pause’ at the end of the day. Somehow I like it even when I have bad days (a failed experiment, a rejected application, and so on). It’s really important to find something you are passionate about, otherwise going through the tough bits of the job becomes very very hard!
