I did a 3 year undergraduate degree in Biology, and then a 1 year separate Master’s degree in Bioinformatics after a year gap so that I could specialise more, as biology is pretty generalised.
My first course at University (Biomedical Science) was 3 years, and for my PhD – where you learn to be a scientist at work, like an apprenticeship – it’s 4 years (usually 3, but I had an introductory year).
For my undergraduate degree did 4 years because I had a placement year as part of my course to get some work experience. I am now doing a PhD which will take me another 4 years:)
