My favourite thing about my job is that I know all the work I do each day goes towards improving our understanding of treatments for patients with cancer. This increased understanding helps us to make better treatment plans and to help people overcome the disease which I find really satisfying 🙂

Salary wise it depends what stage of your career you are at and if you work in industry (e.g. for a pharmaceutical company) or in academia. As you get higher up in your career your salary gets better and the general rule is if you work in industry you get better pay than in academia, although this isn’t always the case!

Unfortunately as a scientist you are unlikely to become a millionaire anytime soon!

The favourite part of my job is helping students understand a new part of medicine because it means I’m helping to make the next generation of doctors.

In terms of salary it depends what actual job you have and how long you’ve been doing it for

My colleagues! I really enjoy meeting different people, from different countries, and different disciplines. My work is all about coming up with ideas and solving puzzles about how we can all eat healthier and in a more environmentally sustainable way. I learn something new from my colleagues everyday, they also make me laugh 🙂

I think the salary is okay as I have enough to cover my living expenses and I don’t struggle too much. Plus at the moment we have a university pension, which gives a bit of security for when we are older. If I look at my friends who are not in academia a lot of them earn a lot more, but then I also have friends who earn a lot less!

My favourite thing is the variety that everyday brings. When an experiment brings the results that you had hoped for it is an amazing feeling. As for the salary, to be honest it isn’t bad, but very much depends on the area that you work in and how far you progress through the stages of career development.

My favorite thing about my job is that there is always a new challenge or puzzle to solve, which is very fun!

Right now, I am still a student, so I do not make a lot of money, but someone with a beginner job in my field out of Uni might make 80,000 or more. As the others have said, it depends on what job you do.

My favourite thing about my job are my colleagues and the diverse days I normally have. I sometimes work in a lab and other times I get to work on my computer and learn how to code. My colleagues make this all a lot easier as I get to complain to them when things aren’t going well or celebrate with them when things are! I am doing a PhD so my salary isn’t great just now (I’m on a stipend), but it is enough to get by and still enjoy myself. Hopefully doing a PhD will allow me to get a job where the salary will be a lot higher, so less stress around money.

My favourite thing about my job is the opportunity to discover something new! You never know what you might find out- science is like one big puzzle to solve!

As for the salary it’s enough for what I need right now so I’m happy!

I like problem solving and finding out things no one else knows the answer to. In terms of salary, I’m not too sure as I’m a student at the moment, but I think the pay is middle ground, around £33,000 per year average.

My favourite thing is when I figure out how to get a computer to do my work for me!

The salary is not amazing but it is definitely enough to live comfortably and with more experience you can hope to earn more.
